Virtually hosted by SAAIR and the University of KwaZulu-Natal
The Executive Committee of the Southern African Association (SAAIR) and the University of
KwaZulu-Natal, take pleasure to invite you to the following professional development events
focussed on the Higher Education Management Information System (HEMIS) namely the
Foundations of HEMIS Workshop and the HEMIS Institute.
HEMIS Institute (Monday 23, Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 August 2021)
The HEMIS Institute is an important event on the calendar of Higher Education
practitioners and from past experience proves to be very popular. Please note that
because of the Covid pandemic it will be a virtual event. All presentations will be
made available after the event to delegates. Due to the busy schedules of participants,
the 2021 event will again be offered over three days, but only in the mornings to
enable delegates to attend to work in the afternoons. However, the programme will
still be covering a wide range of relevant issues.
The Purpose of the HEMIS Institute is to
• Discuss and workshop issues related to HEMIS reporting
• Engage with officials of the Department of Higher Education and Training and the
Council for Higher Education on aspects impacting on HEMIS
• Cover various aspects of statutory reporting (student, staff and space)
• Develop skills in the area of statutory reporting
• Clarify definitions and issues of uncertainty in the production of the required reports
• Share the valuable experience of individuals gained over time through peer learning
and expert sharing
• Address issues of common concern across different institutions in a formal context
• Share ideas on how HEMIS data can be better used internally by institutions
