Congratulations Dr. Emily Mabote: A Beacon of Excellence in Higher Education Quality Assurance
We are thrilled to share the remarkable achievement of Dr. Emily Mabote, a distinguished member of the Southern African Association for Institutional Research (SAAIR), who recently graduated with a Doctoral degree from Rhodes University. Dr. Mabote’s exceptional journey in the field of higher education quality assurance is a story of dedication, perseverance, and unwavering commitment.
Dr. Mabote currently serves as the Director in the Directorate of Quality Promotion at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). With a career spanning almost two decades, her expertise in quality assurance and management has been pivotal in shaping TUT’s approach to educational excellence. Her recent appointment as acting Executive Director: Institutional Effectiveness and Technology further underscores her significant contributions to the university.
Her PhD research at TUT explores integrating quality assurance in higher education, focusing on balancing compliance and quality enhancement. Her findings suggest transformative changes in these systems, with significant implications for higher education quality practices. Dr. Mabote’s holds a Master’s degree in Education and a PGDip in Higher Education: for Academic Developers (cum laude), her doctoral completion is a testament to her academic rigor and passion for higher education.
Since her first involvement with SAAIR in 2005, Dr. Mabote has been a vital part of the association. Her participation in numerous SAAIR institutes and conferences, along with her encouragement for her staff to engage in SAAIR events, demonstrates her commitment to the growth and development of institutional research in Southern Africa.
Dr. Mabote’s journey from presenting her master’s findings at the 2005 SAAIR conference to showcasing her doctoral research in 2023 is nothing short of inspirational. She embodies the spirit of continuous learning and contributes significantly to the discourse on higher education efficiency, effectiveness, and resourcing.
